The Ormstown Scorcher
On a deadly hot July Saturday a strong and proud Beavers Mens’ team travelled to the village of Ormstown to face the league’s top side, a fact our men elected to ignore.
Facing a gale force win for the first half, we played a good deal of the game within our 22; defending tenaciously. They managed to eventually squeeze one past our defensive wall scoring and kicking for 7 points. This did nothing to the beaver resolve and we trudged down field into the wind. A perfectly executed “Purple” ball lead to the Beavers marking a well deserved 5 points. From the shadows, a kicker called Wakim emerged to provide a much needed kicking presence for the Beavers.
7-7 at half.
With the wind at our back. the Beavers struck first in the second half making Ormstown pay 3 points for their penalties, our kicker striking again. Alas, Ormstown struck back quickly with 2 scores, but the Beavers did not falter. Again we returned and kicked a penalty, chipping away at their lead.
The Beavers drove back down field and in the 80th minute scored a final victory, bringing the game to within 3.
Losing, but not defeated, the Beavers walked away with a bonus point but will need to perform even better in the coming weeks to improve our position in the league standings prior to playoffs.
