It was an adventure 65 million years in the making.
Nearly 40 Beavers and Banshees travelled to Kitchener-Waterloo on Thanksgiving weekend for the annual Oktoberfest 10s rugby tournament, complete with a Jurassic Park-themed tour kit (and yes, we had a T-rex… and also a unicorn).
In rugby news, the Banshees went to the finals against the Burlington Centaurs. It was basically an abbreviated rematch of our pre-season exhibition match, with the Banshees narrowly falling to the Centaurs.
Notwithstanding certain self-imposed handicaps (that got worse as the day progressed), the Beavers managed to put forward a pretty competitive edge, winning a game and losing the other two by a point or so. The try of the weekend goes to Jeremy Salgo dressed as Dr. Alan Grant – wearing workboots and khakis, Slughorn Leghorn broke through a tackle and ran the full field to put in the last try of the Beavers’ final game.
Saturday night proved to be a festive celebration of our collective Bavarian heritage, and the polka, schnapps and schnitzel delivered in spades. It was outrageous fun.
