Sides and Leagues
The club runs five men's teams: Senior Men's Division 1, Senior Men's Division 2, a shared Senior Men's Division 3 (with the Blues), and Junior Men's Under 18 and Under 16.
Selection for each of these teams is made on a weekly basis using criteria agreed upon by the club's executive
Senior Men's 1st XV
The Senior Men's Division 1 team competes in the Bardon (or Eastern Ontario) Division of the Ontario Rugby Union (ORU) against the Bytown Blues 1, Kingston Panthers 1, Ottawa Indians 1, Ottawa Irish 1, Barrhaven Scottish 1, and six teams from Montreal. The top four teams in the Bardon Division qualify for the province-wide ORU playoffs against the top teams in the Keenan (or Southern Ontario) Division and Marshall (or Greater Toronto Area) Division. The ORU playoffs begin on Saturday, September 22. The Semi-finals will be played on Saturday, November 3 and the Finals will be played on Saturday, November 10.
Senior Men's 2nd XV
The Senior Men's Division 2 team competes in the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union (EORU) Division 1 against the Bytown Blues 2, , Kingston Panthers 2, Ottawa Indians 2, Ottawa Irish 2 and Barrhaven Scottish 2. The top four teams in the EORU qualify for the playoffs in August.
Senior Men's 3nd XV
The Senior Men's Division 2 team competes in the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union (EORU) Division II. In order to ensure that we have sufficient numbers on a weekly basis, this third team is shared with the Bytown Blues. Each week, the selection committee from both clubs submit players and a full team is put together on Saturdays.
Men's U18 and U16 XV
The Junior Men's Team competes in the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union (EORU) Junior Division against the Bytown Blues, Kingston Panthers, Ottawa Indians, Ottawa Irish and Barrhaven Scottish. The EORU Junior Division starts play in late-June and the EORU Junior playoffs take place in mid- to late- August.Junior games are usually played at TERP on Wednesday nights.
The Eastern Ontario Rugby Union (EORU)
The EORU is the governing body for the sport of rugby in Eastern Ontario. The EORU is administered by a volunteer executive elected at the EORU Annual General Meeting usually held in January. The EORU does not have any paid staff. The EORU represents the region at meetings of the ORU and the Canadian Rugby Union and administers scheduling, referees, score reporting and league standings for Men's, Women's, Junior and Mini Rugby in Eastern Ontario. A portion of the approx. $4500 in annual dues that the Beavers pay to the EORU goes towards the payment of referees and funding for Eastern Ontario Men's, Women's and Junior Regional Representative Programs, the rest goes forward to the ORU.
The Ontario Rugby Union (ORU)
The ORU is the governing body for the sport of rugby in Ontario. The ORU is administered by a volunteer executive elected at the ORU Annual General Meeting. The ORU also employs three full-time staff. The ORU administers player registration, scheduling, referees, score reporting and league standings for the ORU Men's and Women's leagues. The portion of the dues that the Beavers pay to the EORU which goes forward to the ORU is mainly for player insurance and also goes towards the salaries of the full-time staff and funding for Ontario Men's, Women's and Junior Provincial Representative Programs.
Matches
This year, most matches will be played on Saturdays. All home matches will take place at Twin Elm Rugby Park. For the most part, Senior Men's Division 2 games kick-off at 1:30pm and Senior Men's Division 1 games kick-off at 3pm. Selected players and reserves must be in the Beavers change room at Twin Elm 1 hour prior to kick-off time.
Home Park - Twin Elm Rugby Park (TERP)
TERP is owned by the four founding clubs that funded the construction of the park 25 years ago - the Bytown Blues, the Ottawa Beavers, the Ottawa Indians and the Ottawa Irish. Yes that is correct, as a member of the Ottawa Beavers, you are a part-owner of Twin Elm. TERP is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors elected at the TERP Annual General Meeting. TERP also employs staff to maintain the grounds and facilities and run the bar during the spring, summer and fall. The approx. $5000 in annual dues that the Beavers pay to TERP goes towards the maintenance of the grounds and facilities and towards the salaries of the staff.
