Play Rugby?

The Commitment

Playing club rugby requires a substantial commitment. The club runs three men's teams: First Division, Second Division and Junior, and two women's teams: First Division and Second Division/Junior.

First team rugby is the most competitive and requires the highest level of commitment. First team players are expected to commit to attending all training sessions and games and to also keep themselves in good physical condition by undertaking strength, speed and cardio training on their own time. The men's first team competes in the Ontario League and the women's first team competes in the Quebec League.

Second team rugby is more recreational. It is for older and more experienced players that are unable to make the necessary commitment to play first team rugby and for younger and less experienced players that want to develop their skills to play first team rugby in the future. While second team players should commit to attending all training sessions, attending one session per week is generally acceptable. The men's second team and the women's second/junior team compete in the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union.

Junior rugby is for players under the age of 19. Junior men are expected to commit to attending all Tuesday training sessions in June, July and August. Juniors are welcome to attend all club training sessions. The men's junior team competes in the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union.

The Cost

Dues vary on your age. Please refer to our dues structure and registration information.

Players are responsible for the purchase of their own rugby boots and white rugby shorts. The club supplies jerseys for games (these remain property of the club) and each player receives a pair of game socks when they pay their dues. Players are required to chip in for transportation and accommodation costs for away games and tournaments and to cover the cost of indoor training sessions. Annual dues are used to cover operating costs, including equipment (jerseys, socks, balls, field markings etc.), training field rental, and fees to the Ontario Rugby Union , the Quebec Rugby Union, the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union and Twin Elm Rugby Park.

Training

The club runs training almost year round. Indoor session are run one night a week in March and April. Once moving outdoors in mid-April, the club runs two training sessions per week, on Tuesdays and Thursday from 6pm to 8pm, until the end of October.

Games

The men's first team season starts in May and runs until the end of September. Playoffs start in October and conclude in early November. The men's second team plays two seasons: summer and fall. The summer season starts in May and playoffs conclude at the end of August. The fall season starts in September and concludes at the end of October. Men's games are primarily played on Saturdays. No games are played on long-weekends.

Women's rugby starts in May and playoffs conclude at the end of August. Women's first team games are primarily played on Saturdays and women's second/junior team games are primarily played on Wednesday evenings. No games are played on long-weekends.

The men's junior team season is played in July and August. Games are primarily played on Wednesday evenings. No games are played on long-weekends.

Rules

The rules of rugby are known as the "Laws of the Game". The Laws of the Game as well as other information on the sport of rugby is available on the International Rugby Board's (IRB) web site.
